This Privacy Policy describes how Hurricane Apps ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Hintr Shopify app ("the App"). By installing or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Merchant Data

When you install the App, we collect information about your Shopify store including:

Store name and domain
Store owner email address
Shopify OAuth access token (to interact with your store on your behalf)
Billing plan and subscription status
App settings and preferences you configure (e.g. email provider credentials, discount settings)

1.2 Storefront Visitor Data

When a customer uses the Hintr button on your storefront to send a product recommendation, we collect:

Sender name and email address (entered by the visitor)
Recipient name and email address (entered by the visitor)
Custom message (if provided)
IP address of the sender (used for rate limiting and abuse prevention)

1.3 Product Data

To generate recommendation emails, we access and store:

Product title, description, price, currency, and vendor
Product and variant images
Product and variant IDs and URLs

1.4 Email Service Credentials

If you configure a third-party email provider (SendGrid, Klaviyo, MailChimp, or Postmark), we store the API keys you provide securely in our database. These are used solely to send emails on your behalf.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information collected to:

Deliver product recommendation emails to recipients on behalf of your store
Generate and track discount codes associated with hints
Display analytics in your Hintr dashboard (hint counts, order attribution)
Process billing through Shopify's Billing API
Send merchant notifications about hint activity (if enabled)
Prevent abuse through rate limiting
Improve and maintain the App

3. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your data or your customers' data. We share information only in the following circumstances:

3.1 Email Service Providers

Recipient and sender information (name, email) and product data are transmitted to your configured email service provider to deliver hint emails. Providers may include:

Postmark (default) — postmarkapp.com/privacy-policy
SendGrid (optional) — sendgrid.com/policies/privacy
Klaviyo (optional) — klaviyo.com/legal/privacy
Mailchimp (optional) — mailchimp.com/legal/privacy

Only the provider you configure will receive recipient data.

3.2 Shopify

The App operates on Shopify's platform. Your store data is subject to Shopify's Privacy Policy.

3.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of Hurricane Apps, our users, or the public.

4. Data Retention

We retain hint records and associated data for as long as your store has the App installed. After uninstalling the App, your data may be retained for up to 90 days for billing reconciliation and legal compliance, after which it is deleted.

5. Data Security

We use industry-standard security practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and access-controlled databases. API keys stored for email providers are encrypted at rest. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete data we hold about you or your customers. To exercise these rights, contact us at team@hurricaneapps.com.

Merchants are responsible for ensuring their use of the App complies with applicable privacy laws, including obtaining any necessary consents from storefront visitors before their data is collected and processed.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
